I’m in kind of a rut in the game…

Let me explain.

I have tons of stuff going on all the time… I am recording video when I am doing things that seem interesting, and I’m leveling my Priest, and running Karazhan or Zul’Aman or helping Cassie. Or herbing. All great, tons of stuff to do in game all the time.

But Windshadow really hasn’t got any personal goals, other than ‘get Badges for gear upgrades in Karazhan’.

I’ve gotten into the mindset of thinking that Windshadow is as advanced as possible, considering her gear and where we are as a guild in progression.

But that’s not true. There is always something you can improve. I need to step back, look at where I am, and set some goals.

First goal, is to figure out what I need to do to replace my Dunewind Sash with an epic upgrade.

I mean, seriously… I have had no complaints about my Dunewind Sash, it’s awesome, but it’s the last blue in my cat gear set… come on, I haven’t cared abnout that crap, but when you’re down to only 1 blue left, it’s time to make the effort to actually replace the bloody thing, so I can have all epics in cat… for at least a few months before the next expansion. :)

The second thing, I think, is to make a list of those Engineering patterns I don’t have, and go get ‘em. I know I don’t have the Rocket Boot pattern, for example.

I’d try to increase my fishing skill, but frankly, I just can’t do it. Maybe after my Priest is 70, THEN I could justify blowing dozens of played hours fishing. Even with the need for +30 Stamina Spicy Crawdads, I just can’t bring myself to do it.

But okay… epic belt upgrade, list of Engineering recipes to seek out. Cool.

I love my Hunter, but as our guild has a lack of tanks, I don’t get to play her in guild events. I’m not happy about it, everyone else seems to be playing their alts and having fun, but when you’re short tanks, not much can happen to change that. Goal for the future for Windstar has to be to save up for the epic flying mount, and plan on going in 5 mans, even as a pug, to try and get another piece of set gear for the reduced cooldown on traps. And hope I get to do something opther than tank someday. If not the Hunter, than maybe when my Priest gets up there.

And finally, my Priest. She’s level 38 now, and 52% rested. I am going to continue to play her whenever I can steal the time, and make my personal goal to be 40 by the weekend, and get Exalted with Stormwind at 40 so I can get the Horse mount instead of the elephant.

Those are my personal goals for my characters…

What are you planning to work towards on your characters? Is there a particular item or recipe you wish you had, that you’re grinding rep for? An instance or raid you run as much as possible for a particular drop? Or maybe a skill you are trying to level.

Let me know! I’d like to hear about it.

    Goals…

Eventually/somehow get Losse’s (my feral druid) leatherworking up to 375, run Heroic Ramparts another million times for the belt, get the thousand more gold for Mel’s (the mage’s) turbo-birdy, get the hunter up to sixty-seven within the next two weeks (meaning that I actually need to find the urge to play her — she’s sixty-five), finish the really long and dull Call of Water quest for my baby shaman.

Sounds like lots of wasted time.

Oh, and possibly beat the guild together so we can see ZA on Sunday as was planned.

Hm. Those are the few off the top of my head.

  2. Scribbl says:

    Warning!

Do NOT go for a Horse mount on a Draenei. They sit with their legs splayed out (around an elephant) and the horses are so thin that the Draenei look ridiculous. I got a horse and was so disappointed by the look that I got an Elekk as well in the end. Basically your legs end up with a load of open space between them and the horse.

Rams work well though! My epic mount is a ram :D

  3. Valyre says:

I had to do something similar just yesterday. My problem is I’ll just sit around, waiting to see what drops off a boss, rather than planning ahead for what I want. So after missing out on a great trinket (it went to a really good home, so no real loss), I sat down and went over piece by piece exactly where my upgrades were. For some reason, just having goals like that make playing more fun.

My husband has also hit the “Where do I go from here?” wall, especially after finishing all the rep grinds he needed. For him, an alt of the opposite faction has added some interest to his gaming.

Looking at your priest, you might want to do some research before you start the horse grind. A number of people think the graphic is terrible for a drainei on that particular mount. Their knees jut out at a weird angle, etc. Just be sure it’s what you want. I went with the nelf cat, which looks great (1k times better than the flabby elephant behind).

  4. Citabria / Quel'dorei says:

    Hit 70 (65 and 0.000001 of a bar left).

Follow Matticus’ list to get my priest heal gear for Kara.

Either help recruit for the guild [Forgive Me I'm Drunk], so it’s up to size for raiding or join a casual raiding guild.

Finally get a damned Epic ground mount. On that note, someday get Exodar exalted so my dwarf can ride an elephant.

    Tailoring to 375 (at 330).

Get my AH / enchanter alt up to 35 (from 29).

  5. BigBearButt says:

    Hmmm… that sucks. Seriously.

I am close to the Stormwind rep… I already have the ram and talbuk on my nelf druid.

I dont have anyone that uses horsies.

I was really looking forward to having a horse. :(

  6. BigBearButt says:

Matticus has a gear list? How’d I miss that?

[scurries off to World of Matticus....]

    Goals,

On a new server so the first goal is to get my druid to 70 post haste (43 tonight so in two weeks max).

At that point he will be 375/375 mining/skinning and will have flight form. Then I will do dailies to get my cash stash up and then start playing the AH.

Goal is epic flight form for druid and hunter and 10k gold for Wotlk.

    Enchanting and Jewelcrafting ftw.

    Spiffee

  8. Cryon says:

At the moment, I’m writing about my paladin, which I want to get to level 70. I want my epic flying mount, I want to see Hyjal, I want to see Black Temple… so much goals…

  9. ~One Among Many~ says:

BBB – my 64 sham has a horse. Got her at lvl 43. She’s a female shammy and I personally don’t have an issue with the legs. When you’re running and just using the horse it doesn’t look that bad. If you focus on it and really hate it – then yeah don’t get one. I can send you a screenshot or two if you want (of all angles).

My goals? T4 full set for Hawk. Get my alts to lvl 70 (mainly doom and farrow). Get Doom into Arenas and I suppose Farrow could just sit back and heal arenas.

I’d love to lvl up my professions…but I’m not a huge fan of professions. I have 375 first aid on Hawk…that’s the only maxed profession I have out of all my characters…

    =/

    Maybe someday…

  10. BigBearButt says:

Actually, yes One Among Many, I would love a screenshot or two, if you have the time… it really does make me sad to lose the horsie.

If it doens’t look that bad, especially with a robe wearing Priest, I’ll do it anyway. hehe :)

  11. Exanimo says:

Scribble is right, i got myself a horse at first aswell (as it was cheaper then an Elekk as i had better rep with SW) and the spread legs on my female Dreanei just looked too stupid. Bought me an Elephant shortly after.

But goals… first goal would be getting my alt Shaman to 70 (68 atm) and then to gear her up, prob mostly by doing PvP.
One goal is also getting a flying mount (regular) but she saved up enough mats for the Engi Copter, got the cash for training ánd the correct engi level already.
Think gearing her is gonna keep me busy for a month or what at least.

  12. dorgol says:

I’m working on my Mage almost exclusively these days. I have goals for him broken down into 3 phases.

#1: Get to level 59, use buddies to get a Primal Nether, craft “Destruction Holo Gogs”.
    http://www.wowhead.com/?item=32494
    That’s a tier 5 helm at level 59.

I’ll probably spend awhile at 59 farming some Honor.

#2: Get to level 69 and farm MORE honor.

#3: Get to 70, buy near full S1 armor and craft my epic flying machine.

Having 3 other 70s makes these goals easily attainable.

Re: Enchanting vs Jewelcrafting… I say go JC. That same mage is JC / Engineering (mining on my warrior), and I love the BOP items from JC.

Re: Draenei on a horse. My paladin is Draenei, though he’s male. My random mount macro has an Elekk, Saber, Horse, Ram, and Paladin Charger to choose from. At first I was a little put off by the way he looked on a horse, but it really isn’t that bad. And it’s a TON better looking than a NE on a ram.

  13. Luke says:

Dorgol – how do you suppose you’ll get a primal nether at 59? You need 10 BoJ or Heroic boss drops?

    http://www.wowhead.com/?item=32494

My goals are to get my level 48 Rogue up to 70 by end of February, and to 375 in engineering (currently 300) I’d also like to get him the set of PvP swords

I’d also like my guild to have downed Prince by the expansion, which shouldn’t be much of a problem. We’re not very hardcore at all and we’ve got past at least half of the bosses in 6 or 7 weeks.

if time wasn’t an option, i would like to level an alt purely for farming at some stage. my warrior can’t fight his way out of a paper bag, and the rogue would still be a melee class. Ideally, it will be a Hunter, but I’ll see what time allows

  14. Urthona of Cenarion Circle says:

Urthona had a list for badge gear, starting with necessities, then huge upgrades, then minor upgrades, then “sidegrades with less +hit”, then “mmm I don’t wanna, but its more dmg”.

    1. Icon
    2. Elunite Chest
    3. Unseen Moon
    4. Starfire Belt
    5. Moonboots
    5. the gloves…
    6. the shoulders…
    7. the helm… !

Unless I can get into my guild alliance’s Gruul’s run, I’m going to be smack dab in the last option… a place I do NOT want to be. The T4 is so much sexier than the badge shoulders.

So Urth is kind of stagnant as well.

    *********

But I’ve also got a protection paladin who’s a pain in the ass, considering I need a minimum of 235 badges even if I get lucky with drops.

    1. Stoic Guardian – 75!
    2. Unwaverings – 75!
    3. Protector Belt – 60!
    4. Unyielding Ring – 25!

While it’d be great to just get in daily heroics, everyone I normally run with is far and away better geared than him. Plus, I can’t find a guild running Kara part 1 looking for a tank. If I could get in Karazhan, I’d have my time cut by a third.

The whole avoidance mathematics thing is a headache, even with mods and amazing forums like maintankadin. Aside from all that, I absolutely LOVE playing an AOE tank.

I just have to find a team first.

  15. Drashian says:

My feral gear’s in the same rut as yours, maxed for my guild’s progression (both forms). For me, it’s all about the off-specs. The other week I went tree for a few days (between the guild raids I had to tank for) and did some quick polishing to the dusty healing gear I’d saved from DE, adding some cheap gems and putting relatively inexpensive enchants on the best pieces. Got myself up past 1400 healing, did a handful of pugs to practice, and ended up getting to heal one of our Karazhan runs.

This week I’m a moonkin, same kind of polishing to get to about 700 damage and I can hold my own in heroic pugs and again I got to go into Karazhan in my fun new spec. Both times were well worth the respec costs, and gave me new respect for my off-spec sets. Now I have tons of new gear upgrade goals to work towards! I’ve already spent 60 of my extra badges on some incredibly sexy new moonkin shoulders.

Back to tanking after tonight though, ZA time tomorrow evening, and I’m our best-geared off tank. Now to decide if I should go tree or moonkin again next…

  16. dorgol says:

@Luke: “Dorgol – how do you suppose you’ll get a primal nether at 59? You need 10 BoJ or Heroic boss drops?”

I can get Honored with CE @ 59 using Unidentified Plant parts. Apparently (or so I’ve heard), the Heroic mode zone-in uses the same level requirements as the non-heroic mode. My ex-guild is one of the top raid guilds on the server, so I have a couple of geared out buddies willing to help me out.

Look on the Armory for a 59 Orc Warrior named “Murtlsrik” or something. He’s done the same thing to get his epic goggles @ 59. Hell, that guy is a serious 59 Twink… he got HWL (@ 59) and is one of the only lvl 59 players who can ride epic ground mounts…

  17. Dorgol says:

OK, so I got his name kind of wrong:

    “Murtalstrykr”

    http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Bleeding%20Hollow&n=Murtalstrykr

This was the guy that gave me the idea to get my Mage his Goggles.

    My mage is here:

    http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Boulderfist&n=Police

I’ve already got the Engineering skill (heck, I’ve had the weaker and more expensive goggles since lvl 50).

  18. Floyd says:

I’m working more and more toward getting geared for bear tanking heroics and then Kara. So I’ve farming mats for the Heavy Clefthoof armor and nethercleft armor.

  19. Mosshoof says:

My main is a feral druid. I’ve been working my way through normal instances and just got my key for Karazhan. I even peeked in with a buddy and waved at Midnight. We had a bit of a recruiting drive in our guild, and are going to make an attempt this weekend, with luck.

I have OK bear gear — uncrittable and ~19K armor/12K health. But I have a couple of pieces I want to get. I am hoping, before this weekend:

    * Get honored with Scryers to get the low-end shoulder enchant. (Meanwhile, hope I get two Arcane Tomes to drop, or else I will be buying them on the AH.)
    * Run through Arcatraz so I can do the quest which will get me the Verdant Gloves
    * Talk to the guild enchanters and put a few more enchants on my current gear.
    * Get revered with Keepers of Time so I can get a Glyph of the Defender for my Stylin Purple Hat.
    * Once I have enchants & new gloves in place, see if I can swap out some +defense gems for +stamina

    * weep at my virtual bank account, since epic flight training will have to get pushed back once I purchase all that I’m going to need to…

  20. SuraBear says:

Well, when I run out of goals, I make a new alt *chuckle*

  21. Finwe says:

    @ BBB
How have you not gotten an epic belt for cat form? What are you using in bear form? I can’t remember seeing any good epic bear belts that aren’t also good for cats.

The belt was actually my first epic, which was the crafted Belt of Natural Power. This is craftable by most guilds that are working on Tier 5 content. Chances are pretty good that you know someone in one of those guilds. Next you just need to scrape together some cash so they’ll craft it for you. Since you’ve got epic flight form, I know you are able to get the cash. Mine is socketed with Agi/Stam so it works well for both cat and bear. And if you’re not going to use it for bear form, then go for the Belt of Deep Shadow.

  22. Lanae says:

I have a tanking druid too, and it’s a fun challenge to come up with new goals everytime I complete old ones.

    Short-term goals:
    - finish the trials of the naaru quests (and hope the guild downs Magtheridon sometime soon)
    - enough badges for shallow-grave legs (kitty) and Slikk’s cloak of placation (to replace the Kara tanking cloak)
    - find a reliable arena partner and / or farm honor for more pvp gear
    - see more than just 2 ZA bosses :)

    Long-term goals:
    - get at least a fire and a frost / nature resistance set
    - have a decent arena rating (as a feral .. no chance)
    - re-gem and enchant my healing gear
    - spec resto for a change

  23. gt says:

I was really apathetic about leveling and etc till I decided to write a blog! The blog also helps because to write something you need to be playing. :D

Part of my blog has always been setting up goals and so forth. Ag and I keep a shared google document wih bullet points of things we want to do in game. Its a good day when we can open it up and strikeout a couple and add a few new ones. :)

(Right now my main goal is 1.3k unbuffed +healing in gear and 75 badge plate healing pants.)
