I wanted to throw this out there….
I’m not a Priest blog, at ALL, but my alt is a level 42 Shadow Priest, and I’m planning on running Shadow forever…. and trying to plan gear acquisitions, of course.
I asked Matticus if he had any suggestions off the top of his head of any Shadow Priest gear lists, that didn’t require 25 man raiding.
Well, I don’t know if the poor guy came up with anything yet, but I found a list of ranked non-25 man raid Shadow Priest gear in the Shadowpriest forums that seems so darn good, I wanted to share a link to it just because, well…. it’s awesome. The author, “Thatrickguy”, seriously kicks ass. Massive amount of work, and I salute him.
If you have any interest in this at all, go check it out.

I have a level 32 Shadow Priest and the main problem I have is mana conservation. I literally have to drink after every single fight, and for being level 32, I have a decent amount of bonus shadow damage.

At level 32, you dont yet have shadow form so an ideal spell rotation when soloing would be Holy Fire (or Mind Blast if you’re wearing shadow wrath gear which is not recommended until you get VT, for now, spirit and a good wand is what you want), SW:P (move away from mob during GCD), Mindflay, Renew (as needed), wand to death.
Doing this gives you 5 seconds to get spirit mana regeneration for when the mob dies you will recieve more benefit from spirit tap (your biggest efficiency boost).

I can’t read the list here at work (blocked) but I have two words: “Frozen Shadoweave.” This set’s stats are comparable to (and in some cases better than) tier 5, 25-man raid drops. I can only speak from the point of view of a Warlock, but I know that we have a lot of the same gearing needs as shadow priests. Also, the craftable caster gear such as the spellstrike set and the multiple caster belts (girdle of ruination, belt of blasting, etc.) are all excellent choices that will put you head and shoulders ahead of any clothies relying on 5-man instance drops and quest rewards for their gear.
So yeah, level your tailoring, save your money, make your gear, and kick some ass…

At the moment, my spell rotation is to Hit with Vampiric Touch, back up waiting for GCD, SW:Pain, backing up, Bubble, Backing up, Mind Blast, Mind Flay or Wand till dead, depending on mana reserves.
God, I love Shadow Priests.
Not that I need Vampiric Touch 99% of the time. Yet. Not with the bubble.

Thanks for your great blog! I have a little 62 feral druid I’m playing with, and I get good info from lurking here.
In response to your gear building list, i wanted to turn you on to this website..
http://www.maxdps.com/priest/shadow.php
It allows you to check boxes of the gear available to you, then builds the set from there.

Off the top of my head, you need a good shadow wand, wand spec and spirit tap. Open with DoTs and VE and VT as soon as you get them, bubble and depending on the mob, MF once. After that you can wand them to death and you shouldn’t have any mana problems at all.
And if you plan on playing until 70, you’ll have to take up tailoring.

My main is a 70 SP. VT, SW:P (there is no GCD because the VT cast is 1.5 sec - already burnt), VE (if you want). Then at max range you should be able to Flay twice before a bubble and wanding. At lower levels, and if you have some space, pop a fear and resume MF or wanding (easier on mana).
Also, I HIGHLY suggest every caster (especially channel-dependent) get the castbar mod Quartz so that you can time your casts better (with regards to latency).
Just my $0.02.
And regarding macros, I wouldn’t have posted if I didn’t want it shared! Feel free to do what you like!

BBB, by VT, you mean VE (instant cast debuff that heals you for a % of shadow damage dealt). PW:S (bubble) is extremely inefficient and will increase down time significantly. You definitely want to pull with Mind Blast from max range (hopefully you have shadow reach) followed by SW:P (moving away during gcd, dont just move backwards, strafe backwards to add a bit more distance). Cast VE (still moving away) then Mindflay. If you do it right the mob will hit you just after the last tick of MF, and should be at less than half health. I recommend wanding it to death (again for spirit tap regen) or use another Mind Blast to heal yourself up a bit.
BBB, when you get to outland first priority is to get the Mark of Defiance and Power Infused Mushroom. Downtime is your enemy, kill it with Defiance and a Mushroom.
@ Logan you are 100% right about FSW+SS+BoB. I’m still using them in Hyjal.
