It has been everywhere.
I saw it linked and embedded from like 8 different places, each telling me how ‘oh so awesome’ it was.
It felt like everywhere I looked, I saw someone saying “GO! GO NOW! YOU MUST GO! /gush”
Yeah, I don’t know about anyone else, but if something gets overhyped, the fur on my neck hackles rises up and I get stubborn.
“To hell with them, just for that I ain’t going to check it out. THAT’LL show ‘em! Pushy bastards.”
Well, unless of course I’d already known about it and was looking forward to it, in which case everyone else is just agreeing with me, and that’s all right then.
Yeah, there doesn’t have to be consistency.
But finally, I said heck with it, I kinda like WoW movies in general, I love Baron Soosdon, his “The Device has been Modified” is art from on high, and of course his “I’m so Sick” is what introduced me to Flyleaf, and from them led me to Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica, Nemesea and Sirenia, all bands I have come to love.
I fell in love with “The Internet is for porn” by Evilhoof and Flayed, and of course who could deny the simple power of ROFLMAO by Oxhorn, or the fun factor of the works of the legendary Nyhm?
On the subject of Nyhm… Assassinate is a guilty pleasure, but Just Loot It has to trump it for me. It’s hilarious.
And then there is the fury of Crank Dat Druid Boy…. or the Remix, Get a Druid…
Hmm… looking back, I see that my favorite WoW movies are mostly in the ‘humor’ section of the video library. Go figure.
Anyway, I gave it a try. I forced myself to push past the hype to check out The Craft of War: BLIND.
Such a hardship.
The Craft of War: BLIND from percula on Vimeo.
I’m in love.
This video is godlike.
It’s brilliant, not in the way pretentious Sundance Film Festival movies are, but in the way something from way out in left field can be when a bunch of true fans are given free reign. And money.
Incredibly, it’s one person. And no money.
Massive action, great music, and solid lore combine to make a freaking work of art… that gets your blood pounding.
I’ve watched it now at least 10 times, I downloaded it from Vimeo, I bought the song from iTunes, and I made a new Rogue alt to mess around with out of enthusiasm for the sheer cool factor of this video.
So… jumping on the bandwagon, swept up in the internet phenomenon, following like a lemming… however you’d like to put it, Percula hit this out of the park.
So GO! GO NOW!
/agree
Wow, thanks for posting that video. I normally gloss over this stuff but I’m very glad to have seen it. The author really has a good sense of timing; there are no boring bits.
Ya I finally watched it from a post on my guild forums about a week ago… my rogue went from 62-66…
/Amen!
I don’t understand why people (viz, Wowinsider trolls) make such a fuss about the music… it’s great, and furthermore it’s the artist’s choice.
And yes, this thing is BEYOND GODLIKE!
Agreed – LOVE this clip – just really well done!
…
speechless.
Mind-bendingly awesome.
Ok…that freakin rocked
Yeah, I was inspired to start working on my rogue after seeing this. I even started a blood elf rogue with some friends who had also seen this. I have noticed a lot more low-level rogues than I am accustomed to seeing in the past week.
Yeah I’ve seen it a few weeks back… I almost cried :’)
It’s stuff like this that proves that the WoW community is still alive and will be alive for a long long time :D
First time poster, and I have to say that while the video is awesome (just how on earth is it done???), the music is *beyond* dreadful. It starts off well (I love the SW theme tune), but then after the guard is found slain, it disintegrates into some awful pop/dance hybrid that trivialises the rest of the video.
That said, just switch the music off, but I think if the music fit in more with the mood of the video, it would be even more (dare I say it?) awesomesauce.
P.S. Awesome work with the blog BBB. Keep it up! :)
Yep. I lurve that one too B!
How can you not? I mean, really! :D
absolutely wonderful, had to sit here and watch it at least 4-5 times myself. while the music isn’t my favorite, i do agree it is the artists’ choice. but absoultely “Stunning” video non-the less. Thanks for the tip off BBB. =D
That was wonderful! I think Matthias is in love… ::laughing:: he’s certainly met his match…
I saw this when WowInsider posted it and it is quite awesome. Normally I avoid machinima but this guy is quite good. I… sound like… william… shatner!
I’ve heard people comment it as the “Kill Bill” of WoW before.
It is incredible what kind of quality machinima one can do if one really wants to eh?
…
I still think it would have been hilarious to see a troll/orc for the horde side, and a Dwarf for the alliance side.
Plus, hunter’s should totally be able to tame Onyxia at this point.
Eh, it’s a mixed bag. I couldn’t stand the bulk of the soundtrack, but the visuals are excellent. If they had gone with something from E. S. Posthumus, that would have fit the “epic” nature of the thing better… but indeed, that’s a stylistic choice. A choice I don’t think really works as well as it could, but that’s speaking from my film background, not an MTV or VH1 devotee.
Still, the animation, timing, camera angles, storytelling and overall polish are very nice. Thanks, BBB!
QFT. It is epic.
Aww, it tickles me you liked the song, B3! I thought maybe the soundtrack would allow me to pump guildies full of international music but when this was posted on our forums it was mostly AMAGAD THE ANIMATION!, which I do have to agree with. Reading Percula’s vimeo they have an impending layoff coming up.. maybe blizz should take a look! :)
I do have to admit that I liked the “nonAmerican” aspect of the soundtrack. I like Ayumi Hamasaki, for instance. My tastes run to the older European stuff, though. Mozart and company. ;)
Amazing film! I think I’ve watched it every time I’ve seen it posted, and that’s pretty often.
I have to admit that I don’t much like the soundtrack: it’s not something I want to listen to out of the context of the machinima. But the way he’s integrated it into the story does work beautifully. As soon as the first body is discovered, you get the switch from the pompous Stormwind track to indicate that suddenly this is not just another quiet night in the city. I think the rather playful note to the music suits the B Elf assassin, who has to be enjoying herself, even if she’s in deadly earnest as well.
As a footnote, the human rogue is not Mathias Shaw. I have a lowbie alt doing the human quests just now and she’s had to talk to Shaw several times lately. Shaw in-game has short red hair and a beard. The human is Percula’s creation as much as the Elf is.
First off: Welcome to the world of Symphonic Metal, B3. You should also check out Kamelot and Demons & Wizards. I know some of the names (especially D&W) sound over-the-top, but if a band can turn a synopsis of “The Portrait of Dorian Gray” into a well-crafted piece of metal music …
Now, the video … Pretty amazing, huh? I saw that video for the first time last week and wondered for hours what software he had to use to tailor the characters’ animations to his own direction. (I think “Maya” may have been involved.) Thanks for posting it again.
And as for the music: I agree with Tesh: I’m a big fan of certain J-Pop artists. Utada Hikaru comes to mind, as does Origa (though Origa is less “pop” style).
Indeed, this video is full of win! I HAD to show Twai’s family while we were visiting them- wife’s orders ;P
From this amazing video, I was able to conclude that priests are OP.
