I had a request from a reader for Boomkin related reading material.
Specifically, I had this message;
I am a rather casual player, still at lvl 75 with my main (Disc priest) and a 70 hunter-farmer alt. I do not plan on raiding in my lifetime, due to the limited time in-game I currently have. I play to RP and just unwind from work by ticking off a quest or two a couple evenings a week.
I had dusted off a lvl 31alt that has sat (literally) unplayed for about 1.5 years. She’s a feral-talented druid (I just stuck talents in feral due to having them being reset many patches ago) but I’m just not clicking with the feral Melee in-ur-face style of kitty-form. This alt is from so long ago, in my unknowing days, her actionbars are simply setup with new skills being to the right of older skills and ranks. Talk about Druid Noob! :)
I’ve started looking for Balance guides, since I think caster-methodology might be more suited to my other playstyle of Hunter and HealPriest. At the very least, casting Entangling Roots->Moonfire->Wrathspam feels more natural.
However, while I realize I’m not a Boomkin yet, and need a few more levels (and possibly a month or two IRL), I am trying to find a decent overall technique for general Druiding, balance in particular, but just general thoughts for NOW… so that I can shift to the laser-chicken I adored so much back when I first created that alt.
Any pointers for a PvE casual like me to start picking up?
(other than completely re-doing my actionbars ASAP tonight?)Particular talents I should avoid for now until I get closer to 40?
Omen of Clarity looks nice, but should I concentrate on grabbing Insect Swarm first, etc?
Gear-wise, I’m leaning toward Int and/or spellpower?
Currently I have a god-knows-what mix of apparently random stuff. (what WAS I thinking back then?!)Thanks in advance for any help!

Now Nate, I could simply direct you to the World Tree that Resto4Life started and maintains, which is about the best resource for Druid-related blogs that I know of. Lots of great Balance Druid blogs are listed. And don’t discount the other categories, because the beauty of Druids is they can shift spec all the time.
I can specifically mention The Delicious Druid, who recently posted they are trying Boomkin on (and wrote a very nice post about Boomkin), as an example of how you never can tell what a Druid is going to be posting about next.
But that’s not the kind of yakkity-yak you’ve come to know and expect here.
So instead, I’ll suggest that anyone that HAS a Balance Druid blog go ahead and pimp your blog here in the comments.
Just go ahead, knock yourself out, give us the website of your Balance Druid blog, and then give us a brief, one paragraph pimpage of who you are, what you do, and where you’re coming from.
Ready? Go!
P.S. If you do have a Druid blog that isn’t listed in Restto4Lifes’ World Tree, make sure you go over and ask her to let you in. She’s awesome. I’m sure it’ll be okay.
I leveled from 1-70 using all balance attacks on the way. And picking up Boomkin asap. And…it was painful (went from 70-80 as cat and it was much, much easier). The lack of gear is harsh, especially if you are looking for leather. Remember that you can wear cloth, and that you do get an armor multiplyer in moonkin form, so you can probably afford to wear some (or lots) of cloth with spell power when you can’t seem to find leather items.
FWIW, The Daily Druid seems to be doing a great job acting as a portal to other druid blogs, check it out…

There are a bunch of Balance blogs listed on the TNB Wiki Big List of Blogs (BLOB) here.
Thanks BBB!
I knew of yourself, and Grey Matter as “druid Blogs” and was trying to filter out the overtly resto-themed ones from Google’s results of Wow-related blogrolls, and figured I’d pitch my email to you two since I read you now. I feel honored, and figured even if you didn’t know much about Boomkins, you were more connected with the Wow-blog community and could highlight a few on-topic blogs. I’ll check out those site,s and keep my eyes on these comments.
Didn’t think I’d actually get a blog-post out of you for my efforts! :)
I believe Llanion at http://frostmage.net/ (I know, I know) is a Boomkek. He’s pretty good at it, too. Or at least, he’s got me fooled… ;)
Well, you might link to Graylo, Bear, as he got the same mail and made a post for starters :)
As has already been intimated–
Balance druid blog . . . Graymatterwow.blogspot.com
period.
ps There are many other very nice druid blogs with a variety of druidy info, but you did say balance right? ;P
I need to get back in the habit of daily posts on my page, boomtank.wordpress.com
I got to enjoying reading bbb so much i would forget to write my own.. lol
I’m going to go punch in a post now.
Thanks to the people that mentioned my blog. Another resource is http://www.themoonkinrepository.com
They are generally pretty good about answering questions.
I’m a raiding moonkin of the tauren variety and I have a blog with moonkin (and holy paladin) musings called Flash of Moonfire. I generally post 2-3 times a week. I’m not as number crunchy as Graylo (is anyone?) but it’s a fun little thing for me to do. :)
Hey. Fantastic Post! I really enjoyed reading it. I just posted a Balance Druid article on my blog too. Would love to have you visit! Balance Druid Builds
