EDIT: The quality of the Studio 10 MPEG4 version, after YouTube processing, in my opinion looks horrible. I’ve redone it with the video you see below. That one, the one that is down below, is the NEW one!.

And I’m trying to figure out how to take my converted DivX file from Virtual Dub, and add an audio track but keep the quality. The file size is already very nice.
And here we go with part two… a more serious approach to narration, with some attempts at explanations of what’s going on and how to prepare for the boss.

The levity, such as it is, comes in the form of watching us recover on the fly from a partial wipe after the boss fight.

Again, these are more tech experiements than anything else… at least BRK and Tankspot have nothing to fear from me. :)

  1. hey Bear, it cuts off at the end. :x I don’t know if you wanted to continue, but it sounds like it ended in the middle of a word.

But, great video! You should try it sometime without killing the spawns :D

  2. “What do you mean the healer’s outside?!” I would have done the same thing, hehe. And that’s a good piece of information I did not know. I’ll have to pass that on to guild. Keep the videos coming, Bear!

  3. Excellent guide, very clear commentary. Taught me at least one thing I didn’t know about the encounter. Please keep them coming.

  4. I liked the first version of the second video better.

That said, I like the movies. Definitely something you should do more.

  5. The split squad group has always been annoying to me. I’m not sure why I never thought to stand at the entrance (choke point), but that is a great idea. Thanks a lot!!

And from the first video, I learned that the portal location dictates the type of mobs that leave it. I never really noticed that before, thanks for that tip.

Now if you could just give me some pointers on how to bear tank the 3 caster adds from the 2nd boss in Nexus (they are too far apart to swipe and they don’t move since they are casters. Plus they seem to blip around once-in-awhile for some odd reason). They are, by far, the worst bear tanking experience I have dealt with in LK (though I haven’t tanked hOc, hAn or hOK, yet).

  6. @Felkan: If it helps a little, you really only need to concentrate on two of them – maybe even only one. The aggro table on the fire mage seems to be random, while the frost one is mostly casting AOEs. Just be sure and burn down the arcane one first so she doesn’t sheep or stop your healer and you should be golden.

If you have any form of CC at all, Telestra’s copies are vulnerable to humanoid CC – they can be sheeped, for instance.

  7. WTB BBB and cleaner UI. :D http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-TuLymO_lzIxRy6co_zlQA?feat=directlink

Great idea on tanking the squad at the entrance. Saves it from turning into ‘watch the Bear chase the mob’.

Also I like seeing how you sequence your debuffs. Not that it was different from me…just more of a confirmation on what works.

  8. I have a real problem with the color scheme as well. The purple, blue and red are all so dark they are tough to differentiate in the middle of the fight. And given the room is already sort of dark, even my own healer or a mage almost looks like one.

Wait, do they have different names? Maybe I could make a macro to target the purple one first??? Hmmm…..

  9. Great video Mr Bear ! Please do some more if you have time.
I really like your explanations on the tactics.
    Great job!

  10. In virtualdub it is easy to add an audio track to an existing video file, without recompression of the video (IE super fast).
Open the video (probably your divx encoded one)
Select Video->Direct stream copy (this will just pass the existing video along to the new file without messing with it)
Select Audio->Browse For Audio->(select your audio track, MP3 or WAV)
If your audio track was already an mp3 you are probably done, just go file->save as avi
If your audio track was a wav you may want to compress it to mp3 or divx audio or something, go to Audio-> Full processing mode, then Audio->compression->(select an encoder and the settings you want). You may see an mp3 encoder that seems to come with windows, but it sucks as it only allows up to 22khz rate, half of CD. Grab this if you want to be able to use better MP3 settings: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/LAME_ACM_Codec.htm

I have used virtualdub quite a bit and can probably help with any other questions.

Ben, I really appreciate the advice. I actually have been experimenting with Virtual Dub, and figured out that if I record a voice track on Audigy, I can use Virtual Dub to pull it in, just like you said.

But I did not know that about the Direct Stream Copy. That is very good to know! I’ll email you with otehr questions as they occur.

  12. WOW. You can get back in after it starts? I was totally unaware of that. I’ve wiped because of that. Does it work on heroic?

  13. Hey BBB,

Ive had to do some video editing and the like recently.
If you have problems with the quality can i reccomend a Vid converter to you, that way you can experiment with formats.

    Hope it helps!

  14. The split group happened when they changed the timing on VH- Usually i just throw down some type of aoe right at the portal and run back down to LOS pull the group so that the one bloody caster doesn’t mess up the run. I’m liking the video’s a lot, I might have to try recording Essence of Grandeur’s raids, it’d be interesting to be able to see what went wrong and what went right.

  15. bigbearbutt says:

Copey, yes it does, because these videos are all on heroic.

And having said that, I wish I’d thought of doing one on normal mode so I’d seem superhuman. Doh!

Rahl, I’m going to have to try that, you have no idea the hoops I’ve jumped the last two days trying to make one video that could be watched in very clear video quality, that is small in file size. Grrr.

Dirz… dude, we so should run stuff together. I miss running with Essence of Grandeur. You never call, you never write… sniff.
