Siha at Banana Shoulders, one of my favorite bloggers of all time, wrote a GREAT post today wherin she both extolls and laments the wonders of cooking skillups and buff foods.

Go read the post. No really, please go read it. My post ain’t gonna make no sense unless you gone done read it, y’all.

And yes, that IS how I contract ‘you all’. I grew up in the South, and I claim the priviledge of using both you all and y’all in a sentence.

Yes Manny, Miami counts as the South, and I don’t give a damn what the proportion of Newyawk snowbirds are to locals. Go look on a map. You see that bit of the U.S. that looks like it’s pissing on Cuba? Yeah, check out the lattitude. South. /restmycase.

Okay, that bit of inanity should have given you enough time to go read Siha’s post.

She makes a great point about Dragonfin Angelfish, their usage in Strength food, their utter desirability, and their rarity in spawn points.

What she did NOT, however, mention was that Dragonfin Angelfish is not only the primary material component in Strength buff food….

It’s also the primary ingredient in the Bear tank’s best TANKING buff food!

And wait, it gets better! We need TWO freaking Dragonfish just to make ONE tanking food!

/bastards

So when you castigate Blizzard for making Dragonfin Angelfish and Fishing a chokepoint in your Strength food acquisition… remember, they REALLY made it painful to get that one, damn  food you want most by throwing you up in direct competition with all the Bear tanks on the server.

And we all know just how vicious you have to get when fighting a Bear for that fresh caught fish.

I’ve waited two years to use that video. And finally, Siha gave me the opportunity. :)

  2. Vargarth says:

Thankfully, we’re not all confronted by fishermen in orange overalls every day.
    Imagine the horror!

  3. Iggan says:

LOL @ video. Seen it before, but it’s worth seeing again. And again. And maybe a couple more times. :D

Also, “y’all” IS the proper contraction for “you all”. (I keep wanting to smack someone when I see ‘em type “ya’ll” instead.)

My main is a Bear. Yup, needs the Blackened Dragonfin. My alt is a Ret Pally – more dragonfin angelfish… There are days when I all am doing for my WoW time is fish Dragonfin Angelfish.

I never really noticed the lack of a meat equivalent tho. Thanks to BBB and Siha for pointing out that oversight. :( Now my rage bar is filling up!

ROFL at the video. seriously though – that food is also my favorite buff food as a survival hunter (screw 80 ap, gimme agility, nom nom nom) according to wowhead (and I tend to agree) – its best to fish around indule lake in Dragonblight. there are schools of Dragonfin angelfish all around the shore there and if you don’t fill like flying around the lake from school to school (or have too much competition) you can just sit at the pier and fish until you get enough. extra other fish can be cooked for your guildies or sold :)

I love the vid! I’m gonna look for a place to use it now.

Yep, gotta love that dragonfin. I levelling fishing from 220 to 440 for it for that fish. I enjoyed it a lot, and fishing is a nice change of pace from raid boss killing. There’s tons of places to fish this stuff up however. I still have 4 stacks of it waiting to be cooked from my fishing levelling days. Noone should think its hard to obtain (unless you dont fish, hehe)

  7. Nivi says:

We deathtanks also consider that our favourite food. So may the best angler win.

  8. Faulsey says:

… Never again will I face up the John West at work without giggling.

  9. Siha says:

Hi Bear – thanks for the link and the kind words ;) I hadn’t even looked at Agi foods – what were Blizzard thinking?! “Let’s put in four kinds of haste food, but only one for agi and one for strength – oh, and we’ll make them use the same fish!”

  10. Kym says:

LMAO… great way to start a monday morning here in Australia, B3.
    Keep those posts coming :)

    warm regards

Yes this is the first time I actually regret not learning to fish for my three level 80 toons. Yes I was lazy I admit that, but seeing as how I am lazy I dont see myself fishing from 1-400 any time soon. I will settle for the crit food for my DK tank, better than nothing, and crit food for my survival Hunter and crit food for my ret pallie…..oh my god think of the poor little worms.

  12. Cozy says:

Not just bear and death tanks. It’s one of the more accessible ones for paladins as well, and given the strength buff, possibly ret as well as prot.

  13. Chaninn says:

From all the Hunters out here, Blackend Dragonfin is the best choice once we make hit capped.
Dang them now we gotta compete with the bears for food too!

  14. Davlin says:

    LMFAO!!!
My friends and I used to laugh at that video about ten years ago in highschool. That’s insane that its still circulating.
    …memories…

  15. Kattrinsaa says:

grr, must be a youtube.. i can’t see it at work.

I’ll admit, i’m a bit lax on the fishing front, there’s only so much wow time available and between my herbing for my alchy boomkin, and my scripting dk, and my mining for my engineer hunter, plus raiding 3+ nights a week… i’m surprised i got my fishing up to 166…

  16. Jhestaur says:

    Question….

I’m usually healzors, but during the course of raiding I’ve picked up numerous feral sets and have gotten a taste of tanking lately. It’s a lot of fun!

However, I made the decision to use Rhinolicious Wyrmsteak for the added expertise instead of the AGI. My threat is already phenomenal and I’m looking at about 44k health buffed, and my dodge isn’t shabby… should I 100% be using the AGI food instead, or is it more like “user preference” here?

  17. bigbearbutt says:

I am carrying about 60 of the Rhino Expertise food, and use that most of the time.

I save the fish Agi food for things that are actually tough fights where I want to get the most Dodge I can, like Naxx raids.

  18. Kattrinsaa says:

This is sorta off topic, but then again not.. check out my blog post..

  19. Shrinn says:

Heh! I say they let us ferals fight for fish like real bears do. No pole or skill up in fishing required. Mother nature gives BEARS ALL the skill we NEED! ^.^
