Hi All,

It’s Cassie and I need some help!  A month or two ago, my hunter, Cassendra, got in a mood to tame new pets (got the Sapphire Hive Queen, a rhino and a new kitty all in the same day) after having had the same companion since level 10 (a snow leopard from outside IF which was a very a long way for a NE hunter to have traveled for a companion).   I decided to tame one of the purple pride watcher cats from Winterspring and spent many an hour grinding him up those last 5 levels to 80.  He is now my hunter’s primary pet, but he is still shamefully named “Cat” :-(

I haven’t found the right name for him yet, so I’m hoping someone will have some good ideas.  It’s definitely a male kitty and I want something regal sounding since he was a protector of the cubs in Winterspring (nothing silly or goofy for him).  Since he’s got the purplish look to him, I’ve played around with different versions of regal or royal and just can’t settle on anything.  My other cat is named Snowpaw (ya know, cause he has white paws) :-)

Here’s a pic for those not familiar with this particular cat.

So let’s hear your creative ideas!

I had considered this one before I grabbed Shy-Rotam. The name I thought of first? Periwinkle (think Blue’s Clues)

  2. Riverwish says:

I use this website all the time to try and find names for my pets and characters http://www.behindthename.com It’s great because you can search by meaning. Here’s a few I found:

Casimir – English form of the Polish name Kazimierz, derived from the Slavic element kazic “to destroy”
Nuada – Possibly means “protector” in Celtic
Porfirio – Derived from the Greek name Πορφυριος (Porphyrios), which was derived from the word πορφυρα (porphyra) meaning “purple dye”
Sharma – Means “protection, comfort, joy”

I like Casimir the best :)

    River x

  3. Hurric says:

I vote for King Morado, not sure if that is too long though.

  4. Taldira says:

What about a Roman emperor? Their color was purple, since the dye had to be imported and was absurdly expensive. Plus, they are a gold mine for awesome names:

    Augustus
    Tiberius
    Claudius

  5. Brierley says:

Tyrian : A dye color that created purple way back when

Pleione : a fast spinning star looks like it has a purple hue

Deep or Haze : Then you can tell people he’s Deep purple or purple haze(sorry had to throw one pun in there)

    Epic : Since he’s purple

ok its getting bad I should stop now lol.

  6. Sideshow Bill says:

Dang, I forgot to add my idea for him. Periwinkle may have been my first thought for one ages ago, but given the stuff you threw in I’d say call him Sovereign.

  7. Azshrin says:

Hehehe completely un-loreful but the name Pierre sprung to mind :) It looks like a he, and he looks like a sophisticated killer :)

  8. Ogga says:

    Meatatarian?

    Rain or Rayne?

  9. Sklarn says:

What about ‘Borealis’ from the Aurora Borealis? (thinking: purply swirly lights, happens up north where theres snow … ?)

That … or Pan. (Pan is like this mischevious imp-type thing and it’s the first three letters of pansy, which I seem to think has purple petals)

  10. Rotoman says:

    Basilia – meaning regal.
    Alarice – regal ruler.

  11. scaresome says:

I like the name “Regal” for your new kitty.

Rajah might be fitting as well.

Just for fun, I have two cats! One is SoftPaws and the other is OverBite!

    Happy hunting!

  12. Matunnos says:

I like Taldira’s suggestion, but spell it “Clawdius”.

  13. Bigheart says:

    Periwinkle sounds pretty cool.

  14. Kivuli says:

When I played a Beastlord on EQ, my tiger’s name was “Rakshasa”. So named because when he and Kivuli were young, Rakshasa had fought off a horde of rockhoppers in order to save him. So, since the protective little tiger cub had reminded Kivuli of a demon in feline form, the name Rakshasa seemed fitting. Also of note is that Rakshasa are protectors in Hindu mythology, and while not always feline in form (and not always benevolent), they are nevertheless fiercely protective of their charges and unwaveringly loyal. They also are very regal beings, and often wear very expensive and tasteful clothing.

  15. Klinderas says:

    Smallpurplewhitekitty

  16. Kyre says:

    I’d call him Smiles.

  17. Bobo & SgtPork says:

Purple? Regal? Why not party like it’s 1999? “Prince”!

  18. Tesh says:

Eh, if you’re going with the 1999 party, I’d rather name the kitty that unpronounceable whichamazigget that Prince went by for a while. That would be way more fun. :D

  19. Akiosama says:

Well, for a tiger, I’d say either:

    Shere Khan (Jungle Book)

    or

Koenigstiger (WW2 Heavy German Tank – “King Tiger” or “Bengal Tiger”).

Then again, you’re talking to a guy who runs a cat (Nightsaber skin) called Jagdpanther (WW2 German Tank Destroyer – “Hunter Panther”).

Sometimes I think I try too hard.

    My 2 yen,

    Akiosama

  20. SonofMajere says:

I would go with Skadi from Norse Myth she is the Goddess of Winter and of the Hunt.

  21. Ingo says:

With that grin only proper name would be: “The Cheshire Cat” or something in that afect

  22. Coralin says:

Cassie- Go ahead and try a few on for size; I’ll be MORE than happy to pop a few Certificates of Ownership out for you. ^_-

  23. amanda says:

i think ….Regic (reg-ic)…i think its strong but fatherly…and regal…just say it a few times….regic….regic….sounds really good for him

  24. Algiebba says:

My hunter’s cats are usually (with the exception of Cheshire, the Ghost Saber) named Cieiti, and the wolves are named Dioji. The first is pronounced “c” “a” “t”, while the latter is pronounced “d” “o” “g.” Nobody ever gets it, but it always amuses me.

  25. MMorecowbell says:

I sometimes slip into an ironic mood naming my hunter pets. I had a Spider from Duskwood named Cuddles and a Bear named Kitty at one point. What about Fido? or take a lead from BRK and name it Bunneh.

  26. Vers says:

Purple and regal made me think of Prince also… but the first thing I thought of was “The Artist Formerly Known as Cat”. Maybe just “Artist”… it’s got a kind of high-falutin’ sound to it.

  27. MMorecowbell says:

You can also muck with most DPS meters by naming your cat after someone you run with a lot. My wife named her cat after our guild leader’s rogue. One MC everyone was astounded as she tripled everyone elses DPS and his rogue was nowhere to be seen on meters. We had a great laugh mocking him for his poor showing.

  28. Utter says:

The only one I can think of would be “Imadruidletmeoutofhere”, but that’s not really stylish. Made me smile though. :)

  29. Lilywhite says:

BigPurpleKitty seems appropriate to me, or BPK for short. Of course BigRedKitty might not approve but all the better, eh?

  30. Bluetiger says:

I called my cat CadCat – but he’s black and not nearly as regal as this one… Regulus? Romulus? PrinceOfThieves? No wait, he was no real prince….don’t listen to me – it took me two months to figure out what to call my dragonhawk (that I’ve never played with, she’s just pretty), in the end she was baptised Breeze.

  31. eresin says:

    I like Ogga’s suggestion!

    I second Rayne!

  32. Nefernet says:

I’d think of some hero from the trojan war, it would very much match with the name of your hunter.

Priam would be cool : the king’s name, who died too protect his country and family. He was Cassandra’s father by the way…
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priam

Anyway, your pet, your choice :) But nice to ask, it’s fun to find a beautiful name for our pets.

  33. Sierro says:

    Imperious
Basileus (title of the Byzantine Emperors)
    Sovereign

  34. Smid says:

    CatFormerlyKnownAsPrince?

  35. Koch (Aszune) says:

Someone in a blog somewhere (yay! go memory of mine! – was it Pikes?) suggested switching the language to Darnassian, walking up to a trusted friend/lifepartner/someone unlikely to tell you rubbish and just saying what you want your cat to be named. They’d end up seeing the Darnassian version, feeding that back to you and poof! … instant name.

Wonder what “Pride Watcher” would be in Darnassian.

  36. Chai says:

    Reggie?

  37. Vargarth says:

    Noble
(Admirable in dignity of conception, manner of expression, execution, or composition)

    August
(Inspiring reverence or admiration; of supreme dignity or grandeur; majestic)

    Královna
    (“Queen” in Czech)

  38. Rahl says:

    Luscinia

Its a name i wanted for my main but was already take on my server 8(

  39. Eberron of Boulderfist says:

    Omernomer

  40. Mumlock says:

Aslan maybe? I know the pet’s not a lion, but the name would fit I think.

  41. Bellwether says:

    Gods from Celtic Mythology…
    Irusan:

IRUSAN: King o’ the Cats and Lord of Felines in various folk legends.

He’s a very large cat — and when we say ‘large’ we’re talking size-of-a-cow. He lived a regal life of royal splendour in a cave near Knowth on the Boyne, attended by fawning felines and kitty minions.

If you think this all sounds cute, be warned. One day, Senchan, the Chief Bard of Ireland, mocked him in a poem — and was never heard from again.

So it is best to err on the cautious side and regard IRUSAN as no Earthly type of mog.

  42. Asara says:

I had one of these for a while, and I can’t for the life of me remember what I called him.
    Here are some suggestions though…
    Aristocat
    Splendor
Monarca (Spanish for Monarch, according to m-w.com)
Morado (Spanish for purple, same source)
Lazuli (from lapis lazuli, a gemstone. I do that a lot, I had a series of raptors named Onyx, Malachite, and Carnelian)
Beauregarde (i.e. Violet Beauregarde, from Willy Wonka)

    Good luck!

  43. Seleria says:

I like the Tiberius suggestion >> Kinda goes with the polar cat thing… (sounds like Siberia? yay?)… and it sounds all important-like.

  44. fgminor says:

    Morado – purple in spanish

    Azul- blue, also in spanish

or if all else fails turn to the norse gods!

I have Odin the ebon skinned lion, and Heimdall the gorilla.

Odin being the all father of the Norse Gods and Heimdall being the guardian of the bifrost bridge, the rainbow bridge between Midgard (Earth) and the God’s kingdom of Asgard.

  45. ForSquirrels says:

I know that you might not think it’s regal, but my cat at home is named Larry. It has always felt like a simple strong name to me, so that’s what I name all my make kitties on my hunter. I do from time to time get the “He he…. get er’ done” crowd, and for those people i really wish blizzard would allow intra-faction PvP so i could shoot them in the face….several times.

  46. Chaninn says:

I was thinking more along the lines of linking his name to yours. Maybe Destiny (altho that’s usually female) or Prophet or Seer. Something along those lines. =)

  47. miggedymike says:

    Two suggestions
    Purple People Eater
    Purrrrple

  48. Vargarth says:

Whoops, I just realised I skipped over the “it’s definitely a male kitty” part.

So I thus change my suggestion for Královna into..
    Král (King in Czech)

  49. Drakthum says:

Kalamazoo….”Della and the dealer and a dog named jake and a cat named kalamazoo….” Old song, I’m showing my age.
