I have long been using X-Perl as my general Unit Frame package, because I like the way it puts buffs under my portrait, the way it streamlines the raid and party frames, and the way I can arrange target of target of whatever and such.

The problem I’ve been having, and a complete reinstall and cache flush hasn’t fixed it, is taht frequently, almost always, once I am in a raid isntance I can no longer right click on portraits or interact using right click in any way.

As a raid leader using Master Looter, this is a nightmare.

I can’t open trades, can’t assign loot, can’t make others assistant, etc etc.

I am, frankly, sick of it.

Can anyone recommend a good UI to replace it that stresses simplicity of display? Please?

Especially one that is ready to go?

Update to post:

This may seem like it came out of nowhere, but I really have trued to get this fixed and keep X-Perl. I love X-Perl, and have used it continuously for at least 2 and a half years. I’ve gone and messed with other things, but always come back to it.

What i should have done is asked the bunch of you about your own experiences with this problem of right-clicking, rather than just ask for UIs. Clearly, even though the comments on Curse indicate a widepsread belief that it’s the X-Perl to blame, the problem seems more widespread and is not directly tied just to X-Perl, but seems to have something to do with some called out code.

In the meantime, I tried running last night using X-Perl, with Cartographer Instance Notes as well as a bunch of other stuff in Cartographer disabled, and had the same problem.

Interestingly enough, Cassie does not use any UI or unit frame addon at all, but she does use Cartographer and Questhelper… and she had the right-click problem in an instance.

So, I don’t know what the solution is. Last night, I had to pass off lead to Cassie, as well as Master Looter, but this problem needs a permanent solution. Preferrably one where I don’t have to sacrifice my UI. :)

Still want to try out some of those other UI configurations though, they look interesting.

Personally I use http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info11321-SkullflowersUI.html with a couple modifications (added an extra bar mainly) and removed some addons that weren’t needed for tanking. For my unit frames I’ve always used pitbull but for the most part.

Have heard good things about Stuf Unit Frames though. (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info11182-StufUnitFrames.html)

  2. Softi says:

I’ve been having that problem too and I don’t use Xperl so it may not be the addon that’s the problem! Not a clue how to fix it yet though. For me it’s almost every time I’m in a party, regardless of where that party is!

  3. Sid says:

I had the same problem, and I never used X-Perl or any other unitframe addons. I remember reading somewhere that the Cartographer instance notes/maps module conflicts with questhelper (or was it gatherer?). The simple fix which worked for me was to disable the Cartographer instance modules. If you are running these addons, giving this a try might work. Good Luck!

  4. Kuroyume says:

i use BLacksen’s UI, a premade package that requires very little setup, and comes in several widescreen resolutions. It looks great and is pretty well thought out…

  5. Icedragon says:

XPerl has nothing to do with this that I can tell. The updated version has no glitches at all. Are you really sure it’s XPerl doing this, Bear?

Oh and when reinstalling any addon, make sure that you completely delete the addon’s folder in the Interface file, not just drag/drop it and hit “Yes, Replace All” when the file overwrite comes up – renamed files will be mixed with old ones.

  6. tc says:

Pitbull 4 is pretty solid now, and completely customizable. It does take some time to configure the way you like, but is considerably easier than it used to be.

  7. Jason says:

I use Caith’s UI which can be found here: http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info11255-CaithUI.html. Slightly modified of course, but its a great start and very clean.

  8. KBear says:

Check out Pitbull- requires a little config to get used to but has nice, clean, bright display of all unit frames, completely movable. Check out my personal UI at http://micromanagingchaos.guildomatic.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22&sid=5861209ca245c6cbc613288b0dca970c if you want to see what they can look like, mine’s fairly close to default: bottom right of the map shows target (that’s Skimpy), focus (Emalon), and my raid frames a little farther right. My own unit frame is in orange (being a drood) just left of the display.

Pitbull is EXTREMELY customizable, however the default settings are pretty much ready to go if you don’t want to have to deal with it.

  9. Kriyet says:

    BBB,

Before you radically change your mod setup, you should know that this is not just your problem. In fact, Matticus over at World of Matticus had a post this week about losing his heal frames mid-raid, which drew a ton of similar responses from other people. Ulduar in particular seems to be bad, but I have it happen a lot in Naxx on boss fights where my Clique suddenly doesn’t clique anymore – a nightmare for a healer.

Like Sid suggests, I’ve found making sure that Cartographer and Questhelper both are off has helped, though some bizarre click errors still occur – those I’m chalking up to the vengeful gods of WOW.

I’d try disabling almost everything except the necessaries (Omen DBM, etc), then slowly adding back in the optionals til you get the errors again.

If you have to give up XPerl to make it work, I use AG_Unitframes and love those. I tried PitBull, and just didn’t like the feel of it, and XPerl had issues for me.

    Hope you find a solution.

    Cheers,
    K/K

    I use Stuf unit frames…

…but if you’re starting over, there’s always Spartain UI. http://www.spartanui.com/index.html

  11. Christopher says:

Are you running Clique/Click2Cast or any of those? I had a bear of a time getting those to behave whenever I switched from party to raid to solo and such.

  12. The Alien says:

I had that exact problem. A guildmate did too and he was using another unit frames mod. We eventually determined that, in our case, disabling QuestHelper removed the problem. I don’t know if you’re using it, but that one change fixed it for both of us, him with Pitbull and me with XPerl.

  13. Sharon says:

I had the same problem twice, and it was because Xperl wasn’t playing nice with another mod. The first time, it was Clique and I forget what caused the problem the second time.

  14. drakemon says:

I happen to use STUF as a replacement for WOW’s UI. I used to use x-perl but never really got it to work correctly.

  15. Borric says:

I have been having the same problem and have never even heard of the addons you thought might be causing it. I do use Questhelper however and will try disabling it and see if that helps…

  16. Boize says:

I use AG Unit Frames, a nice, fairly light-weight addon to customize your unit frames. It’s similar to Pitbull, but with less “fancy gizmos”, but that means it takes up less space.
It is also very user friendly, and can be set up to look very clean. (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/ag_unitframes.aspx)

Here’s a screenshot of my setup of it in a (small) party:
    http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/8692/screenshot060709050400.jpg

And one in a raid (where I had my own UF set as a small square when I was using a HUD):
    http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/1992/screenshot053109145255.jpg

All in all, I think it’s a great UF.

  17. Feralsword says:

Seeing as your a master looter, try out Xloot. Makes the handing out of loot a lot easier

  18. Dannth says:

Had the same problem until I disabled Cartographer. No problem even after adding clique down the road.
    Still use X-perl just fine.

Though I may give pitbull a try for giggles!

    -D

  19. JK says:

I’m using XPerl and Decursive – I can tank and ML fine. I don’t use the map mods that have been mentioned that might conflict, and I don’t use the healing mods that other healers use (Clique or Healbot or w/e). I think this might not be a problem (as others have said) limited or caused by XPerl.

    Either way, good luck.

  20. Lissanna says:

    I recently switched to SRaidFrames.

  21. dfv says:

I heard that issue was due to too many chat channels being opened. Carbonite and QuestHelper do this to track your guildies locations etc. If you are in a number of other chat channels aside from the defaullt ones, try leaving a few of them. This should allow you to right click again.

  22. Ed says:

    Hey BBB,

I use X-Perl at the moment and have the same error that you have occur to me quite often, but only in raid/instances.

Just /reloadui and that seems to solve the problem (well until the ext raid!)

    Give it a try.

    /peace

    Audere (Dragonmaw, EU)

  23. Sass says:

I am fairly sure this is not Xperl also, and I don’t use cartographer..

But, A UI that’s pretty good out of the box is Spartan UI. I didn’t work out for me, but I did take some things from it when rearranging things once I had used it.

  24. Manxome says:

Dunno if you are seeing this everywhere within a raid and party. If so, it could be an interaction with another mod. Strangely enough I saw this happening with 1-2 of my toons, whereas the other 3 were just fine. Turned out to be Cartographer’s “instance” modules (the maps, notes, loot, etc.) and when I turned them off, all drop down right-click menus came back.

(I had tried cache flushing and the works as well!)

  25. Ruune says:

FWIW I have been using VuhDo as a healing addon which incorporates raid frames. While primarily designed for healers, it is customisable to be able to use for just about any role or class. It is very customisable and I now use it on all of my toons for the primary raid frame interface.

  26. Kivuli says:

I had this problem a few versions of X-perl ago. It was a compatibility issue with the version of Deadly Boss Mods I’d been using though I’m given to understand certain other addons could also cause the problem. I did a complete re-install of both addons using the latest updates and the problem went away, never to be heard from again.

Barring that, I have a couple friends who use Pitbull and like it.

  27. Savvy-Savvage says:

I use Pitbull, Sexymap, ARChud and Sunnviewport.

-Pitbull- configurable, movable party and target bars
-Sexymap- hides minimap buttons under sexy blue swirling heiroglyphics till you mouseover and also converts to a heads up display around your character for gathering nodes in a snap
-ARChud- puts stylish casting, health, mana bars for you, your pet, your target right to the left and right of your character that can make a level 2 rogue with one dagger feel like an F-16
-Sunnviewport- just adds borders to the top and bottom. I go with solid black so it looks letter boxed and I toss all my recount, omen, party frame graphics in the void area for an un-obstructed worldview (except of course for the heads up display smack in the middle <.<)

*for that rogue friend of yours*
    /targetenemy
    /cast pick pocket

  28. Althalas says:

I am loathe to ask, but….did you update the add-on? I had the same problem with X-perl and an update fixed it.

  29. T-bone says:

As a tree I use Stuf but they are lackluster in many ways for a lot of people I’m sure. What I like about them is just the way they feel for me. They are very minimalistic and… I just like them.

  30. Neil says:

It takes time to set it up and tweak it to behave exactly as you’d like, but I have never in all my time playing WoW seen any raidframe addon that matches the simplicity and elegance of Grid. However, it is only for party/raid frames.

As for unit frames (self, target, etc) I have never had any trouble with X-Perl, but I also used the combination of Pitbull + Grid to great effect for some time.

  31. I use a few addons to create a custom UI. I play a protection paladin, and having high visibility is very important in a lot of fights, so I try to avoid a lot of the clutter you find on some UIs. I use bartender4 to manage my action bars, a single row of 36 primary abilities occupies the bottom of the screen. Above those is the exp/rep bar. Above the rep bar to the right are my bags and minimenu side by side, and directly above that is recount, which toggles itself hidden upon entering combat. To the left of the minimenu is my aura bar, and to the right of that is my chat log. In the place of my character health and mana portrait is Omen, which toggles to hidden when not in combat, and below that is the raid frames. I use IceHUD to keep my health and mana, and my target’s health and mana right on top of my character, so I don’t need to look away to check health, buffs, or debuffs. I use Parrot to keep track of procs and to keep a feel for incoming and outgoing damage and healing. Lastly, I use sexymap to track coordinates, and look stylish. None of the addons clash, and ou can function entirely based off the immediate area around your character.

  32. Ceara says:

The problem is likely to be cartographer. I’ve had this happen to me and a number of guildies after patches. They weren’t all using XPerl but the solution each time was to disable cartographer

  33. Vacant says:

I had similar problems after 3.1, but an X-perl update fixed it. in fact, now that i think about it, it may have been Prat that was causing the issue…..

anyways, if you’re deleting all your addons and starting again i’d stick with X-perl if that’s what you like and build around that, one by one till you find something which doesn’t play nice.

  34. Ulv says:

I use pitbull and have had no issues with it – I particularly like the huge level of cusomisability it has although initial setup is a bit daunting. At least it’s config follows the same rule for all elements unlike some addons!

  35. Lheaf says:

Why the instant x-perl hate? :P I find myself doing it at times too, when I shamefully admit what unit frames addon I use. I love it. I’ve never touched healbot and I’m slowly trying to tweak grid to take over for xperl.

  36. Rowtan says:

Controversial it may me, but I had problems with x-perl and reverted to using the standard Blizzard UI – perhaps I’m not using it “correctly”, but it seems to work for me! You can set it to show target of target, and buffs people have, with the added bonus that it works without conflict! The only additional addon I use is quickmark for marking targets on the fly – much easier than negotiating those little sub-menus.

I suppose the only down-side is that it is a little more tuned for parties than raids – but at the moment I spend more time healing with my priest than tanking with my bear, so with Healbot to help out, I don’t have any problems.

  37. Jeff says:

    Been using C T-Mod since probably 2005.

    http://www.ctmod.net/downloads/

    I use Healbot when healing.

Good luck finding something you like! :)

  38. Lissanna says:

I wanted to make another note about why I settled on Sraidframes. It basically has a very similar feel to the bars from Xperl, but had features that were better for me (ie. showing HOTs that I cast). Since the style is similar to Xperl, and it had basically very little setup time, I decided that I liked it the best. I’m still using Xperl for things like showing the buffs under my name and some of it’s other features, but I disabled the Xperl raid frames and switched over, and I’ve been happy with the Sraidframe functionality ever since.

  39. Bibi says:

I had the same problem. Instant solved with updates on ALL mods, although it seemed to be gatherer and QH that was really messing it up. I tried the Spartan. It’s not working for me. I prefer xperl for healing, but I don’t have it on any other toon.

  40. Stig says:

I’m going to have to say Pitbull4. They are great frames, easy to configure, highly customizeable, and I’ve never had an issue with clicking.

Take a bit of time getting them configured and I guarentee you’ll love em.

  41. Kestrel says:

I use Pitbull 4, and as TC said, it’s a lot better than it’s predecessor. A lot of people above recommended Pitbull, but they didn’t specify Pitbull 3 or Pitbull 4: Trust me, you want 4. It may still be considered to be in “beta” so if you’re using the Curse downloader, be sure you configure it to allow Betas.

  42. Thanners says:

Heya, looks like I’m a bit late into this, but I’d just like to echo the others who have suggested that it’s probably not your UnitFrames (or at least not soley your frames), and probably related to cartographer, or something to do with the map. (c:

I haven’t done any rigorous testing or anything, but for myself and guildies who have experienced it, we all use cartographer, but different unitframes.

    A workaround:
I have, however, noticed that when the problem occurs, you can right-click on things again if you bring up the map. i.e. Bring up the non-fullscreen-sized map, then drag it mostly off the edge of the screen so it’s not in the way, and then you’ll be able to right-click on things.

  43. Sheldreyn says:

I use Pitbull 3 for my main utnit frames (Player / Target / Target of Target / Focus / Focus Target / Pet and Pet Target)

The rest is handled by Grid.

    Works like a charm

  44. Honorshammer says:

I switched over to SpartanUI and I’m really liking it. It gives you a ton of screenspace which is important for both tanks and Raid Leaders to see what is going on. http://www.spartanui.com

  45. Nefernet says:

    Hi BBB !

You might want to have a look at STUF (StellarUF) on WowInterface ( http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info11182-StufUnitFrames.html ) You can use it out of the box or arrange it easily. There isn’t as many options as with X-Perl but I like the simplicity. I have never had any clicing problem with it.
The pictures are not that great on WI, so here is a link to my own UI, a bit cluttered with battletext but that’s not the point here…
    http://fr.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=ngriiq&s=5

I didn’t move the classic frame (player, targer, target of target, group) but it is possible. The raid unit frame is STUFraid too, very simple and useful except if you don’t need too many information (I prefer Grid with my tree).

I hope you will find something that will help you.

  46. Akiosama says:

    Hey BBB,

I’ve never used X-Perl before, though I do use QH and Cartographer like Cassie, and I do have trouble with the same thing. Generally speaking it’s only a problem in instances and BGs… never have trouble in the regular world…

(The real problem is that there aren’t /commands for all the features in the menu. I wish there was – I hate not being able to “Pass on all Loot” or “Unlock Focus Frame” or the likes when this isn’t working.)

Anyhow, good luck with your UI fix.

    My 2 yen,

    Akiosama

  47. Warmhorse says:

Don’t quit X-Perl just because of a bug that will likely be fixed by the time you find and setup a new UI. I have run into this issue before as well and simply rezoned the instance and it was fixed.

  48. Jamari says:

I can tell you that X-Perl is not the only one having this issue. I know for a fact that Pitbull also has had this problem as well as nUI (or at least did, he did an update recently). This seems to have started with a recent patch/hotfix in last couple weeks. You could try something like MasterLoot or Raid Loot Helper both can be found at Curse and I am sure there are others. A /reloadUI will normally fix the issue at least temporarily, but not always. I think my record is 5 UI reloads before it was fixed temporarily.

*If I repeated anything my apologies, I did not read the entirity of the previous 49 responses

  49. Lawdog says:

I use a compilation called ArkiveUI. It is very easy to install and looks very clean.
