I’d given up on tanking and was seriously looking at going resto when I found Threat Plates. They make a huge difference for both tank and dps play. Double and triple thanks to Danltiger for Tidy Plates and Suicidalkatt for Threat Plates.

And I understand your experience with the hyper dps. Was in Utgarde Keep with a ret pally that was doing 8k dps. There was nothing I could to do that would pull mobs off of him. All I could do is get comfortable with the idea, “you grabbed it, you tank it” and keep up with my 2k dps.

Last resort for me, after all you have suggested, just kill the troublesome player. If you are clever you can make it look like an accident and get away with it. It’s not something I like to do, it even feels bad going against the tanking creed; but sometimes a good slap on the floor ensures they stop acting like an idiot.

On a side topic, don’t you wish you could have 2 specs for tanking, one for raids and one for hc’s? I love running hc’s with the guild, but with my MT raid spec bear (single target, max survivability), I find running through hc’s to be a pain, so I rarely run them now. My other spec is a kitty pvp spec… gief 3 specs!! :)

After several weeks of stress and avoiding checking “tank” on the PUG tool again after an H HoR failed run that left me in tears, I can honestly say I’m excited to try this again with the right tools. And it just helps to hear someone else say “It’s not your fault” :) Thanks for the tips!

I’m with Elyndynne on HoR. Is it even POSSIBLE to tank heroic HoR with a 4300 GS?

Thanks for this blog. I am just starting to read WoW blogs and this posting really helped me as a bear tank. I personally drop immediately from HoR because I just cannot get aggro on so many people coming from different directions before the dps (or heals) steal it. It’s sad I will tank ICC and not feel uncomfortable but am afraid of mobs in HoR….. This has given me suggestions and I will try the tidy plates.

I had this overgeared healer just walking in front of me throughout the whole daily heroic tanking the next group untill i Tclap them off… and that after i clicked my macros at the entrance door which explain to the group that im an UA-tank and thus need at least 5 seconds to establish some agro on a group… guess the guys roflmaoed over at his place while i was sweating and screaming like a mad rooster.

Yep, snake room is nasty. You can turn off plates for neutral mobs in the options though.

I just wish there was a way to make it so the plate for a mob you have targetted stops at the edge of the screen. I’m getting sick of huge bosses where I can’t zoom out far enough because of ceiling height, so instead I have to look straight up to see the plate, and can’t see the fire I’m stood in. Doesn’t help that those are the situations where the DPS are going full nuke, and you have to keep an eye on the bosses plate.

long time reader – first time poster!!
I discovered threat plates ’bout a month ago and have only just read your blog BBB – kinda reassuring that I’d found a legit mod that others find useful as well.

I do have an odd question about it tho – do you know if it’s possible to have the nameplates setup in a box formation off to the side rather than floating in the middle of the screen. I have resized them but it can be cumbersome with 4 or 5 of them (e.g. snake room) right in my view and then I can’t see if I’m standing in a health sucking pile of goo or some other such AoE piece of nastiness.

Thanks for your blog – I alternately rage/sympathize/cry and laugh along with you. You are always a great source of info and inspiration.
