Very good idea, I do the same myself with the PBeM. I work out what needs to happen in the turn first, with the dice rolls and the input from the players, and then I do the writing. And just as yuo say, when you’re filling in the ‘blanks’, sometimes you get more than you bargained for, but hey, that’s what makes it fun, right?

Good advice, BBB. I’ve started writing alot more than I have in months since joining my RP guild. Not only do we RP in the game, we also have forums we post our stories on. It’s quite fun and we all seem to inspire each other to post more. I almost never start a post with a title. In fact, the title is the very LAST thing I do 90% of the time! ;) When I sit down to write a short story for my guildmates to read, I rarely have more than a rough idea of what I want to happen. I just look at my little post-it note of what “needs” to happen and then just let my sometimes goofy imagination fill in the blanks! Do I usually post the first draft? No, but the act of sitting down and getting a prototype made gets the creative juices flowing!

Hey Bear,

You (and my fellow readers) should check out write or die. I bought the pay version, but there’s a free web version that’s pretty great. I’m a big believer in the shitty first draft- get it down, edit if you need to, but GET IT DOWN. This let’s you set a goal, whether a total word count or length of writing session, and go to town. Stop writing for more than a few moments and an alarm starts blaring… Or set it to Kamikaze mode and it starts deleting back from your cursor!
