Being a Vet is a huge plus. If there are any Federal jobs within your commuting area… certainly take them into consideration.

Well, I’ve been talking to someone here at work that retired from the post office, and I’m thinking tonight I’m going to talk to Cassie about what I have to do to get on the USPS hiring list. I think I have to find out when they have the placement test set up, and take that, and then wait for something to roll around. At this point, I’ve realised that I’m more than willing to commit to a company that will still be there in two years.

Seriously, you try your damndest, and they just keep going down. But one way or the other, the mail has to move, and the machines in the USPS have to move ‘em, so they need somebody to fix em. I can DO that.

For what it’s worth, mate, I’m sorry to hear about your job. I’ve spent the last year looking for one (about 3 hours south of Chicago, coincidentally) and have only turned up part time jobs that keep screwing me over. I know how it can be, having to constantly look for work, and I’m really sorry to hear you’re going to have to again. Good luck.

Hey BBB! Sorry about your job, that sucks. I’m currently looking for something new myself. I’ve been “part-time full-time” for over a year. That’s full-time work with part-time pay for those that don’t get it.

Anyway, glad to hear that Great Wolf Resort was a lot of fun. I saw an episode of Undercover Boss with them and I was impressed. I need to check and see if there’s one near us. Here’s a link to the video on CBS.com:

I totally wanted to MagiQuest when Matheo and I went on a little mini-vacation to Gatlinburg last year, but I thought we might be the only adults there without kids so we didn’t do it. I really wanted to go, and Matheo would’ve went along for the ride if I pushed it, but I figured we’ll wait a few years and take Andy. Man it’s awesome having a kid so that you can do fun stuff and say you’re doing it for the kid! :) LOL

With 3 teen boys now, it was my exprience that “getting too big” for the kiddie pool, no matter how fun it was, was never a problem for the kids. It has always been a point of “I am growing up!” pride.

Glad to hear you had a great time in WI. Love the Dells. Going there in a few weeks. Not to any lodge this time. We’ve been to Great Wolf and found it as great as you say, but we got some free passes to Mount Olympus, so we’ll just spend the day there.

Sorry to hear about the job situation. I totally understand. Lost my job as a mainframe programmer about a year and a half ago. Been delivering pizzas to stop the savings hemorrhage while I reroll profession to actuary. At this point, I’d take a job in Chicago, lol. Or anywhere. Heck, Chicago wouldn’t even be close to the worst place I’d take a job. I actually like Chicago. Interestingly, though, I’ve seen more actuarial openings in the Minneapolis area. That wouldn’t be so bad either.

BBB, glad to hear you and your family had a good time up in the Dells. :) I’ve never been, but I’ve heard good things from my friends who live up that way.

I understand the job frustration. I was recently forced into a position where I had to tender notice to my company with no sure job lined up. Now it was my decision, but (without getting into details) there are some things that I just won’t be associated with. And given the same situation, I’d make the same choice 100/100 times. But it’s still a little scary.

My best option for a job is, ironically enough, in Illinois, which is a third of the way across the country from where I’m at right now. So I’m currently negotiating with that job while shotgunning my CV around the area where I live … fun times.

Good luck, keep your head up, and always keep an updated copy of your resume in your back pocket, even once you get a new job. :)
