Your post reminds me of a discussion I had with a friend a few weeks ago. When I spoke to him about the first few pages of something I am writing (based on my short story I posted for your writing challenge), I told him that I wasn’t satisfied with how my story looked like. I deeply love my characters (especially my main character and his sister) but there was something wrong with how the words sounded in my head. He said something to me, and it could also be useful for you :

“Stop trying so hard to please others. Write for yourself first and if you like it, I’m sure people will like it too.”

So, there you go! You have a great style in everything you write and most of all, you are true to yourself in everything I read on this blog. If you feel that your story doesn’t “belong” to you, do not be afraid to write everything anew. You can be assured that I will be in for the ride! And I am sure that most if not all of your readers are eagerly awaiting your new novel posts!

I would be interested in being a part of a writing circle as you describe. Never had the chance, never attended continuing education past high school and military trade schools. Never met any other writers in real life. Ever. I am doing this without any kind of secret support group.

Gnomer and Tesh are my only behind the scenes blogging chat buddies, and we really talk about non-writing stuff.

I like ‘boomfizzle’ a lot. I like it in the same way I like ‘madcap’, which comparison puts you in rather exalted company, Sir! Invented words are the spice of language. I think you are on the right track…you can never go wrong by being yourself. Authenticity FTW!
