Technically not a raid song of the week

It’s been a while since I did a straight up song on here, since as some of you may remember, the service I was using had issues.

On the other hand, I wanted to share this song simply because it really is a song I love a great deal.

It’s not a raid song, just a song to listen to and enjoy. No gaming related stuff, totally offtopic.

The song is “What I Need”, by Collin Raye.

The backstory on this, is that Cassie really enjoys the music of Jim Brickman. He plays what he calls ‘romantic piano’, and has done a lot of music that she loves, and that I’ve grown to enjoy as well.

So every year, when he comes to town, we go see him live. He usually does a Christmas show or a Valentine’s show in the area.

The last time he came, he had a guest vocalist, but instead of Donny Osmond he had Collin Raye, a singer we had never heard of before.

Well, that’s not entirely true. After we got back from the show, I looked him up… and I had certainly heard his music back when I listened to country music more often than I do now.

Yes, I listened to country music a lot back in the day. And before you ask; Garth Brooks, George Straight, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, David Allen Coe, Alabama, Oak Ridge Boys, Chris LeDeaux. Back to the discussion.

So Cassie liked Collin Raye a lot at Jim Brickmans show, and I got her all his CDs which she really liked. So as a treat last year I got tickets to see him at a solo show at a local casino.

Yeah, yeah I know. If your career is at the ‘playing at casinos’ phase, it’s time to hire a new manager.

Anyway, we went, and he did a pretty amazing show. He did a great job, very vibrant and funny and performed very well. You could tell he really enjoyed being up there performing, it wasn’t just another gig. Of course it helped that it was a small venue, a pretty small setting with that private show vibe.

His songs were familiar from listening to the CDs, but he did this one song he really grabbed me, more than any other. And that’s the song I wanted to share with you today.

Somehow, over the years, it just rings so very true for me, personally. So I hope someone else, who hasn’t heard of him before, may hear it for the first time and enjoy it as much as i do.

Also, as you know… it is my goal to try and offend every one of my readers at least some of the time. I’ve gone with hard rock, speed metal, Irish music and bagpipes before.

Time to go the country route. I might have a fan or two left I ain’t chased away.🙂
