500cc of Prozac… STAT!

UPDATE: Servers are starting to come back up, US side anyway. A handful are live, like Draka and Dark Iron. And with that said, and having successfully logged into Draka just to see, I can affirm… there are some servers coming up. Whee.

I’m gonna go give my son a bath and make some dinner.

Okay, panicky panickers of the realm of panic.

Yes, as I said in the last post, the patch notes as released ain’t complete.

And no, neither are the updated ones WoW Insider posted at 3:30 eastern time here.

I mean, seriously did you read that?

  • New Talent- Protector of the Pack (Feral): Increases the bonus attack power for Bear Form and Dire Bear Form by an additional 20/40/60% for each friendly player in your party, damage taken is reduced while in Bear Form and Dire Bear Form by 1/2/3%.
  • New Talent – Mother Bear (Feral): Increases the bonus attack power for Bear Form and Dire Bear Form by an additional 20/40/60%, and for each friendly player in your party, damage you take is reduced while in Bear Form and Dire Bear Form by 1/2/3%.
  • Boy, I just can’t wait to get both Protector of the Pack AND Mother Bear! Woot!

    /sarcasm off.

Ghostcrawler popped up and said on the Beta forums that we will not, in fact, be getting 100% of everything for every class.

    Fine. I’ll post it here.

    Ghostcrawler said;

The build going live right now has a lot of class changes. But it doesn’t have all of them. Some changes, particularly those that affect high level abilities and some of the changes we made more recently won’t be in today’s build. But you will get them all on or before Nov 13 when Lich King goes live.

While we have done some balance testing at level 70 with the changes, we tested at level 80 a lot more, since so many players are focused on Arena combat and endgame raiding. Balance at 70 is going to feel different from 80. 🙂

If you played WoW at the 2.0 version before Burning Crusade shipped, you’ll remember that this can be a crazy time. You have new abilities through talents, but not new core abilities, and not enough talent points to get everything. There are major gear changes, major mechanic changes, and a lot of class changes.

Some of those are going to take some getting used to, and despite our best efforts, it’s entirely possible we’ll find something broken that needs to be hotfixed right away. The game should start feeling a little more normal again when Lich King ships. It’s cool to keep providing feedback and testing things out.

Just try and be a little patient and understanding over the next couple of weeks as players learn about the changes (especially players who weren’t in the beta), get all of their broken mods working, and we make whatever fixes we need to make on our end.

    However.

    HOWEVER.

People seem to be freaking out that this means no Titan’s Grip, Berserk, or other 51 (or even 46 point) Talents, because the patch did not specifically call those Talents out by name.

    At ease, people.

Bornak has posted on the official WoW forums that, as far as he is aware, we are getting our 51 point Talents. It would seem that our Talent trees are complete.

    And I’ll post that too.

    Bornak said;

    Last I heard:

All players will have their talent points reimbursed and will have access to new talents throughout their trees; this includes the 51-point talents. Several new spells and abilities have been added for all classes. Players will need to visit their class trainer to learn new spells.

If I were to hazard a guess, and yes I am the kind that will, I would suggest that what is most likely, is that some changes to existing Talents that we have seen in the latest PTR and Beta builds may not have gone live just yet.

As in, we may not in fact see unlimited targets affected by Swipe. Or we may not see Predatory Instincts affecting cat form ONLY.

But Bornak says, as far as he knows, we will get 51 point Talents.

If you want to believe we are getting completely broken Talent trees or believe it’s all gonna end in tears anyway, that’s fine. Different historiocal patch updates could legitimately lead you to believe that. In fact, we have had some server downtime in the past that was scheduled to end at a certain time, and we were still waiting 8 hours later, with less changes coming in the pipeline.

But if you are building panic based on vagueness in the patch notes and Ghostcrawler’s even vaguer mutterings bereft of specifics, just relax and wait and see.

PLEASE relax and wait and see.

TOMORROW we can rant and whine. ‘kay?

And when I download and INSTALL a patch, I call the patch live. It may see additional ‘hotfixes’ before servers go up, but I’m calling a patched game install a ‘live’ patch. I know Bornak said we should wait until the patch goes live for updated patch notes. I have no idea what he’s talking about. I got patch notes when the patch installed. I can’t believe I’m actually seeing arguments by people nitpicking that ‘if the servers aren’t up, the patch isn’t live, whine, whine..’. Geez, are you kidding me?

I’m not gonna sit at my computer and obsess, I’m gonna go watch Junkyard Wars.

    1. I would LOVE to QQ or something. Actually I wouldn’t. I would just like to log in. Was this sorta downtime similar pre-BC. I started before it and vaguely remember a couple of down times but had no vested interest at the time.

MMM vested interest in a game….maybe I play way too much!

    2. I still consider not having swipe hitting all targets is pretty poor. That was one of the things I was really looking forward to.

Oh well, I’ll wait and see what happens.

    3. I completely agree with you. Every patch day, I dread hearing all the clamor of people complaining about the patch, worrying about the patch, checking every two seconds to see if realms are up, wanting to know why Blizz can’t update sooner, bemoaning nerfs/changes to their class…. It gets real old. Real fast.

I spent my patch day catching up on blogs, (calmly) browsing my prospective new talent tree and organizing my bookmarks folder. The sky isn’t falling over here.

    4. This patch gave me a chance to do a lot of cleanup I’d been putting off. :>

And I know what you mean about the Kurken. I don’t like the other Core Hounds at all, but the Kurken just looks so .. detailed, as you said. And friendly somehow.

    5. /agreed Mania. Thank you sir, for the voice of reason.

While it *is* slightly disappointing to not be able to play the patch until tomorrow thanks to those wonderful things called night class and early class, I’m not too much worried about it. Just means I can escape the rush of “Woe is us…” and worse in Trade channel.

As always, entertaining and informational as usual.

As a side note…I agree with The Kurken comment you made. After browsing Mania’s wonderfully updated site, I momentarily thought on respeccing BM for the sake of taming The Kurken (he’s so cool looking!). But I like my MM/Surv hybrid just as well. My little Rajah will suffice well enough.

    6. And thank YOU for a gorgeous site update, mania!

I spent about an hour just browsing Petopia, and reading your FAQs, and marveling anew at the neatness.

Moonclaw the Ghost Saber is, as always, giong to be my first and only bestest friend.

But I’m thinking, taming The Kurken would be very fun, just because he has such a Valhalla look to him. I only wish there were a snow wolf as awesomely detailed with all the trimmings, instead of Mr Two Head.

But Moonclaw is going to have a talent tree! I am sooo stoked.

I believe that your interpretation is correct, and I posted something to that effect myself on Arcania. Either way, we’ll see soon enough.

But I’m afraid the truth is that people enjoy panicking on patch day. Ah, well .. I guess we all enjoy ourselves in our own ways. :>

    8. One more thing….

There are people at the other end of the patch spectrum as well. Those that don’t have clue what is coming. That’s right. There are plenty of people that are playing this game that have not even looked at a blog, beta forum, talent tree, etc. that mentions the upcoming changes. In fact last night, I helped 2 Feral druids with their lvl 70 talent trees. They don’t really care all that much about the min/max stuff, they just have fun playing with their friends. We had multiple players in last night’s Mags run (last chance for folks to get the Champion of whatever title) that had no idea about the new buff system, inscription (and glyphs), dual-specs, game mechanics (+spell, +heal), etc. And you know what, they will enjoy the game, probably more than those of us that fret over every minor detail.

FWIW, I’m gonna level inscription (if I can) over the next couple of nights just to allow things to settle a bit before I go run off and solo heroic shattered halls using swipe spam and berserk’d mangles.
