A Few of my Favorite Things

My apologies in advance to Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Aggro on monsters that endlessly miss me
Beastmaster hunters and ghost saber kitties
Writing about bacon and bear butted themes
These are a few of my favorite things

Sons learning swimming and building toy models
Girl Genius comics and Sir Pratchett novels
Swift forms that fly and can herb on the wing
These are a few of my favorite things

Crüxshadow lyrics that scream out defiance
Kitchen spruced up with a brand new appliance
Wife of wide wonder that makes my heart sing
These are a few of my favorite things

When the PUG fails
When my work stinks
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad.

Ret Pallies feeling all uber o’erpowered
“Oh No John Ringo!” and Weber’s gal Honor
Richard with bunnies and Bitterleaf’s grin
These are a few of my favorite things

Alex playing games with his wabbit slayer antics
Pink on Pandora and Starcraft all frantic
Ramsey’s foul mouth while Collichio’s king
These are a few of my favorite things

Smooth luscious Guinness in tall frosty glasses
Bacon I’m naming twice in seperate stanzas
Playing the game when it’s Cassie and me
These are a few of my favorite things

When the PUG fails
When my work stinks
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad.

To steal a line from Ryan Sohmer….

  1. The Most Sacred of Meats™, Guinness and Honor Harrington . . . Genius, pure win!

Mission of Honor was well and truly awesome . . ..

Oh, and bear tanks that hold aggro . . .
And all in the same filksong!

  2. I loved it all! Especially the nod to Order of the Stick, been reading through their archive for the past couple days.

  3. Absolutely brilliant, started singing it in my head and by the 3rd verse I was singing it aloud 😀

And personaly I think you should do the living on a bench =] it’s just so catchy =D

  4. Speaking of both bacony goodness and glasses of Guinness, I toured the Sam Adams brewery in Boston Thursday. They served a Bacon Stout . . .

  5. *drool* guiness.
reminds me of the song I sang when my son was sick

****** has a snotty nose, snotty nose, snotty nose
****** has a snotty nose, all through the night.

    ****** has a yucky bed,….. need I continue?

  6. Of Favorite Things wrote Bear.
Becca showed me; I just had to stare.
    I laughed ’til I cried,
and then my brain fried —
but at least I’ve got clean underwear 🙂

Now, to go put some bacon on that ghost saber kitty….

  7. This is wonderful, BBB! One of my favorite songs and you’ve gone and made it incredibly personal (you had me at “Beast Master hunters and ghost saber kitties” but the “smooth luscious Guinness in tall frosty glasses” sent it over the top). You demonstrate your talent every time you write a blog, but this is sublime. I absolutely adore you.

  8. I’m glad it brought a smile. 🙂

I was thinking, if you’re gonna start a meme… it should meme something to you, y’know?

Not that I expect anyone else to make a list of their favorite things.

@Juergen – Yes, you’re right, but I liked the flow of having the emphasis switched to “oh NO John RinGO” a little better. I don’t know why, it made me happy.

Rawon, “Bear Necessities”? I’ve thought about it a few times, but it’s one of those songs I just sing as is, for no apparent reason. Just, wandering around in the supermarket, and I’ll bust out with a little “Look for the… BEAR necessities, the simple bear ne…”. Never thought of trying to change that one.

I have been having this Aerosmith song, “Livin’ on the Edge”, working at the edges of my brain, wanting me to write “Living on a Bench!” for those homeless during the current economy downturn. It pretty much writes itself in my head.
    You’re living on a bench!
You can’t brush your teeth at aaaaaalllll.
    Living on a bench!

    Sorry, sorry. I’ll stop.

  9. I’ve read your blog for a while but I’ve never felt the need to post a comment, but this time I just had to, so here goes:

You got me humming that tune all afternoon 🙂 (that even rhymes!)

    Thanks for a great blog.
