National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo as it’s called, starts today.
I’m not going to be a part of the official website membership, or do any of my work through the website.
The organization website seems cool, and from what I saw this morning has a powerful community that can offer encouragement and support to writers, has lots of resources, it all seems very positive.
There is a but, though. I’ve been plodding along on my project for years now, and when I am finished I am going to be able to legitmately say that my novel was heavily influenced by Manny, James and Cassie and was encouraged by the support of my friends here on the blog, period.
My success or failure and speediness of delivery won’t be affected by having a membership on a community website, no matter how well-meaning or supportive. And conversely, no website is going to be able to point to my work and claim to have had any impact on it or influence over it, however it may turn out.
As always, the good bits come from friends, the msitakes come from me.
I would say that I’m going to be working very hard on my novel this month, but that is a lie. I’ll be writing like hell, but I expect it to be equal parts frustrating and fun.
Work? Work is what they have to pay you to get you to do.
If you have ever had the desire to get writing a novel, telling a story your way, putting your own imagination out there, NaNoWriMo is a great community and there is a ton of buzz and support if you get going now.
Never forget, though… any time is a great time to sit down and hammer those keys. Or scribble that lead.
